Foundational Principles of
American Government
Christians get in trouble when they conform to the world's thinking and
allow principles to slide. They are tempted not to cause waves, forgetting that
the world already is a turbulent place and that men are seeking—whether they
realize it or not—for the stability of fixed principles. These principles can
come only from the Christians, from those who base all decisions upon Biblical
truth. The problem lies with the question, "Just what are these
principles, or general truths, which should form the basis for all we
think?" The purpose of the succeeding chapters is to explain as fully as
possible what these principles might be. Each person must decide for himself
whether these principles are adequately supported Biblically. Yet even for
those who may see other principles beyond the ones mentioned here, it is my
fervent hope that the principles discussed in this book may at least provide a
starting point for further exploration. At the very least, if these principles
are acknowledged to be consistent with a Biblical worldview, they will provide
the beginning of a basis for unity. The principles to be covered are:
- Individuality: The
Cornerstone
- Self-Government: Maturity
& Liberty
- Property: Stewardship and
Accountability
- Unity & Union:
Voluntariness & Diversity
- Christian Character: The
Catalyst
- Christian Form of Government:
God Wants Kings?
- Sowing and Reaping: The
Bitter Harvest

Biblical Worldview
Principles Applied
- Hold to the traditions of
God, not the traditions of men. A
Biblical family has a father and a mother, married for life, as an example
to their children.
- 2Th 2:15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught,
whether by word, or our epistle.
- Mar 7:7-13 Howbeit in vain do they worship me,
teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of
God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the
washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. And he said unto them, Full well ye
reject the commandment of God, that ye may
keep your own tradition. For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother;
and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death: But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother,
It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be
profited by me; he shall be free.
And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother; Making the word of God of none effect
through your tradition, which ye have
delivered: and many such like things do ye.

of the United States, Updated 12 Sep 98. Biblical? God confused the
language at Babel. And they said, "Come, let us build for ourselves a
city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for
ourselves a name; lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the
whole earth. And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which
the sons of men had built. And the Lord said, "Behold, they are one
people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began
to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for
them. "Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that
they may not understand one another's speech." So the Lord scattered
them abroad from there over the face of the whole earth; and they stopped
building the city." (Gen 11:4,8 NAS) God appears to scatter those
nations that do not give Him glory.
