The Letters In
RED
Words and Music by Randy Doyle Hazlett
Dedicated to Pastor Emeritus W. A. Criswell "Any color, as long as it's red."
I remember back in Sunday School
Those blue-haired ladies and their Golden Rule,
But they're only a faceless memory.
But they gave me a present that was truly fine,
A big-letter version of the Word Divine
With fold-out pictures and a gen-u-ine leather-like smell.
BRIDGE 1
Well I couldn't read it, but Mama could.
Those big-letter words, they made me feel so good.
But way down deeper in the second part
Sat the red-letter words that would melt my heart.
CHORUS:
Yeah, Girls love pink, and boys like blue,
But red is the color for this red-necked fool.
The word of God, just like He bled
I fell in love
Oh, I fell in love
Yes, I fell in love with the letters in red.
Off to college just the other day.
I packed my suitcase for a 4-year stay.
And said good-bye, and drifted for the door.
But then Mom comes a flyin' like a two-tailed kite.
With a box full of love to help me sleep at night.
Old fam'ly photos and some cookies to carry me home.
BRIDGE 1
And as I entered a stranger's room,
He said Mama's cookies, they were like perfume.
But homemade cookies hid the secret part
That ol' red-letter Bible that would paint his heart.
CHORUS:
Now, boys chase pink, and girls love blue,
But red's still the color for this red-necked fool.
The word of God, just like He bled
I fell in love
Oh, I fell in love
Yes, I fell in love with the letters in red.
BRIDGE 2:
Dog-eared, tear-stained,
Ink-smeared, binder strained,
Pages ripping apart.
Margin overflow,
Love notes in a row.
Red ink spillin' all over my heart.
CHORUS:
Girls love pink, and boys like blue,
But red is the color for this red-necked fool.
The word of God, just like He bled
I fell in love
Yes, I fell in love
How, I fell in love with the letters in red.
