BLAZER HORSE ASSOCIATION

The Blazer Horse Association (BHA) was established in 1967 at Star Idaho.  With the goal of preserving and refining the "true western horse" of years gone by, the BHA adopted strict inspection regulations (  see qualifications  ).  There are additional guidelines for stallions.  They must be inspected when they are two years old and again at age eight after they are proven sires with registerable offspring.  Stallion owners must issue a pre-registration application to the owner of a mare at the time of breeding and are required to submit breeders reports on an annual basis.  The stallion population is closely guarded with only the highest quality foundation individuals kept as studs.  Registered parents do not insure registerable foals.

Paid association members in good standing are automatically entered in an annual competition where points are accumulated by the horse and rider annually.  Awards are presented by the association based on points accumulated over the year.  Each rider must notify the BHA of their points for all events in which they compete on a quarterly basis to qualify.  Following is a list of yearly awards: Provisional horse (under two years old ), performance gelding, performance stallion, brood stallions, endurance riders, all around man/woman, performance mares, brood mares, judged show person, speed event riders and Blazer Hall of fame.

The Blazer Horse Association has brochures with pictures that chronicle the history of the breed and qualifications for registration. There is also a listing of mare and stallion owners who are breeding horses for sale. Brochures are available upon request for $2.00 to help offset  the cost of printing and mailing.
